A drunk-driving case means you need FR-44 insurance, with higher limits than an SR-22. Call now and a licensed agent reads your notice, quotes companies that file it and gets it filed today.
Who needs it
Only Florida and Virginia use the FR-44, and only for certain offenses. Florida requires it for a DUI conviction after October 1, 2007. Virginia's rule covers DUI-type offenses on or after January 1, 2008.
Your offense date decides which rule applies to you. Call now and the agent goes through your court or DMV notice for free.

Why the limits are higher
After a drunk-driving case, the state raises the liability limits you must carry. Virginia sets FR-44 limits at double its SR-22 limits. Florida spells out the dollar amounts.
| Rule | Florida | Virginia |
|---|---|---|
| Offenses | DUI conviction after October 1, 2007 | DUI, maiming while under the influence, driving on a license forfeited for those |
| Other convictions counted | Your agent reads your notice | Similar convictions under federal law, another state's law or a local ordinance |
| Bodily injury, per person / per crash | $100,000 / $300,000 | Double the SR-22 limits |
| Property damage | $50,000 | Double the SR-22 limits |
| Or one combined limit | $350,000 | Your agent quotes it |
| Without a DUI | $10,000 PIP and $10,000 property damage | SR-22 limits |
| Time on file | Three years after reinstatement | Your agent reads it from your notice |
| Reinstatement | Proof of DUI program enrollment or completion, then finish within 90 days or the license is canceled again | Your agent goes through your notice |
What it costs
You pay for much higher limits on top of a DUI surcharge. That makes an FR-44 policy cost more than an SR-22 policy.
The filing itself is a one-time fee each time a company files it. You also pay a license reinstatement fee. The reason for the filing and your record move the premium most.
Only a quote gives your real number. Call now and the agent compares companies that file FR-44s in your state.
FR-44 versus SR-22
Both are forms your insurer files to prove you carry coverage. The FR-44 demands higher limits and applies in only two states.
- SR-22: most states, minimum state limits, often three years.
- FR-44: Florida and Virginia only, after DUI-type offenses, higher limits, three years in Florida.
If you move, you still finish the original filing. It usually must come from a company licensed in the state that ordered it. Your agent quotes those companies on the call.
