One year or three: find your Idaho clock first
Idaho Code 49-1208 splits drivers into groups. If a conviction led to a suspension or revocation, you verify proof for three years. That period starts on the last day of the suspension or revocation.
Uninsured driving has its own scale. A first conviction under the insurance sections means proof for one year following the conviction. A second within five years means three years following that conviction. Your license stays suspended until proof is on file for the right period.
ITD says the same for a DUI: three years, beginning at the conclusion of your suspension period, per its driver records guide.
The DUI track: 90-day ALS, then the court case
An administrative license suspension, or ALS, runs on its own track, apart from the court case. ITD says the 90 days begin 30 days after the date on your notice. The first 30 are an absolute suspension with no driving at all. For the last 60, you can apply for a Restricted Driving Permit.
To fight the ALS, request a hearing within seven days of the Date of Service on the form. An ignition interlock is required for one year. It starts 10 days after the 90-day ALS ends.
The fees stack up. ITD lists $245 to reinstate after an ALS and $60 to apply for the permit. The DUI reinstatement fee is $285.

Idaho's insurers file through the Idaho Insurance Verification System
Since January 1, 2025, SR22/26 information goes to the State of Idaho Insurance Verification System, ITD says. Your insurer sends it there, not to a DMV counter.
That ending has a built-in delay. Under Idaho Code 49-1213, certified insurance cannot be cancelled until at least ten days after the notice is filed with the department. A new certified policy replaces the old one on its effective date. Switch companies by starting the new policy first.
Idaho's $25,000 / $50,000 / $15,000 floor
The Idaho Department of Insurance requires Bodily Injury Liability and Property Damage Liability on each personal vehicle registered in Idaho. Bodily injury must reach $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident. Property damage must reach at least $15,000.
Those amounts pay for other people's injuries and property, not your own car. No car to insure? A non-owner policy is the usual way to carry the filing.
Paying ITD, and filing from another state
ITD dropped the convenience fee for online reinstatement payments, its 2023 announcement says. You pay at dmv.idaho.gov. You still have to meet every other condition and wait out the required time.
Moved away? Subsection (4) of 49-1208 covers nonresidents. If you file and keep proof of financial responsibility in your home state, ITD reinstates your Idaho driving privileges for as long as that proof stays in place.
